Light Mosaic: A Warm and Illuminating Design

A Unique Blend of Functionality and Aesthetics

The inspiration for the Light Mosaic design comes from the idea of light seeping into a room and illuminating everything within. The windowpanes filter the light, creating a soft and warm interior color spectrum. The designer wanted to express the feeling of warmth and comfort that light brings to a home. The design aims to create a space where the necessities of life are presented and placed in order, while also harboring emotions and beauty.

What sets the Light Mosaic design apart is its unique use of light grayness as a stable support for the ceiling and floor. The intersecting lines define both the functionality and aesthetic vision of the space. The alternating rhythm of void and solid in the colonnade breaks up the closeness of the cabinets, creating an open and airy feel. Solid stone is used as a structural support, while embedded lighting with mirror surfaces softens the space and highlights the cabinets for collection and exhibition. The combination of wood, metal, and gray mirror cladding on the posts and lintels adds to the overall materiality and creates a holistic aura.

The realization of the Light Mosaic design involves the use of a tea glass grille between the living room and the entrance. This lightly blocked grille opens the door and reveals a sudden visual sense, creating a dynamic and engaging living space. The face-column type design utilizes a seamless white stone covering column, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the overall aesthetic.

The Light Mosaic design covers an area of 330 square meters, providing ample space for comfortable living. Its luxurious design, play of light and shadow, and attention to detail make it a standout in the world of interior design. Located in Taichung City, Taiwan, this project was completed between September and December 2018.

Recognized for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity, the Light Mosaic design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that showcase strong technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Light Mosaic design truly exemplifies the fusion of these elements, contributing to the improvement of quality of life and making the world a better place.
